It easy to show the Mario is Nintendo’s mascot, being one of the most famous video game characters in history. Over 201 million game units of the Mario phenomena have been sold. One of the great super mario games is the second release.

The original Super Mario 2 was never released in the U.S. It was thought to be too hard for North American game players. While Super Mario 3 was being worked on, Nintendo decided SM 2 had to be released in North America. They used a game already made called ‘Doki Doki Panic, replaced all the playable characters with the Mario characters – Super Mario 2.

Super Mario 2 was the first Mario game where you had a choice of which character to play. You could be Mario, Luigi, Toad or Princess Peach. Each character had unique powers and abilities although Mario seemed to have the most evenly rounded set. In Super Mario 2, the characters travel through a world of dreams called Subcon (subconscious?) Subcon is ruled by a giant frog – Wart. Entering through a cave discovered while on a picnic trip, the heroes of the game fight Wart’s army. Wart’s army has different characters named Birdo, Mouser, Clawgrip and more.

Battling Wart with veggies, forcing them into his mouth, they finally defeat him. Just as the Subcon fairies start carrying Wart’s unconscious body, the characters turn and wave at the player. Mario wakes up – perhaps the game was only Mario’s dream. Super Mario 2 is the first Mario game to use a life meter. The life meter allowed the characters to be hit up to 4 times before they kick the bucket. Its my favorite of all the super mario games on the market today. Including the new ones.
